Offense Shines in Softball Sweep of Berea

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team collected 25 hits during a doubleheader sweep against Berea College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon from Behrens Field.

The Grizzlies won the opener 8-0 in five innings, before tallying 15 hits in a 10-2 victory in six innings during the second game.

Franklin (16-8) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Grace Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) and a single by junior Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie).

One inning later, a groundout from junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) scored junior Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) to give the Grizzlies a 3-0 lead. The hosts took a 5-0 advantage in the third inning after a run-scoring single from Paszek scored freshman Monica Collins (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community). A throwing error allowed Paszek to score the second run of the frame.

Four consecutive singles to open the fifth inning scored three runs to secure the victory. Freshmen Shelby Mager (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) and Taylor Bounin (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) each recorded run-scoring base hits in the fifth inning.

Sophomore Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) scattered three hits in improving to 10-3 on the season. The left-handed pitcher recorded three strikeouts in the complete-game victory.

Sophomore Morgan Burch (Coatesville, Ind./Cascade) and Hanna each recorded two hits to lead the team's offensive attack. Paszek drove in two runs from the middle of the batting lineup.

In the second game, Franklin scored multiple runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to pick up the victory. The Grizzlies collected 15 hits in the contest.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) connected on her second double of the game to score Lalioff. Struewing later scored on a base hit from Paszek to give Franklin a 2-1 lead. Burch followed with a double to score junior Sara Thom (Mooresville, Ind./Monrovia).

The Grizzlies broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning. Junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) scored two runs with a double. The team added three more runs in the sixth inning to cap the scoring.

Junior Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) picked up her first victory in the circle, allowing four hits and strikeout out five batters in six innings.

Struewing led the team's offensive attack by going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Lalioff collected two hits and scored two runs. Burch tallied two hits and drove in two runs. Mager scored two runs.

Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. when it travels to Anderson University.
