Softball Improves to 3-1 in HCAC Following Road Sweep of Hanover

Hanover, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team improved to 3-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play after sweeping a doubleheader at Hanover College on Tuesday.

The Grizzlies won the opener 8-3 before picking up an 8-6 triumph in the second contest.

Franklin (14-6, 3-1 HCAC) took a 7-1 lead behind a four-run fifth inning. Junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) started the scoring in the frame with a single to score junior Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers). Senior Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) followed with a two-run single to give the visitors a 6-1 advantage. Junior Jasmine Hanna (Frankfort, Ind./Clinton Prairie) hit a double to score Struewing to cap the scoring.

Hanover answered with two runs in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to four runs, 7-3. Blevins grounded out to second base to score Lalioff in the sixth inning to push the lead to 8-3. The Panthers mounted a rally with a three-run sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Hanover put the potential game-tying run into scoring position. However, junior Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) got a groundout and a strikeout to secure the victory.

Senior Bri McClellan (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) improved to 4-1 on the season by scattering three hits in five innings. Lindamood earned her second save of the season with two scoreless innings in relief.

Struewing led Franklin's 13-hit attack by going 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Junior Bailey Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) and Lalioff each recorded three hits in the victory.

Franklin resumes its Spring Break trip with a HCAC doubleheader at Transylvania University on Wednesday, March 30, at 3:30 p.m. in Lexington, Ky. The team concludes its eight-game weeklong road swing against Maryville College in Tennessee on Thursday, March 31, at 1 p.m.
