Softball Set to Begin HCAC Action This Weekend

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team begins Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play with home contests against Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. from Behrens Field.

The Grizzlies begin the weekend by hosting Adrian College on Friday, March 25 at 3 p.m. in non-conference action.

Franklin stands 7-5 on the season and will be playing for the first time since splitting a doubleheader against DePauw University on March 12. The team won the opener 6-1 before losing the second game 10-4.

The Grizzlies' offensive attack has seven players hitting .310 or better for the season, accounting for the team's .362 team batting average. Franklin has outscored its opposition 74-46 through the first 12 games.

Junior third baseman Jeana Gregory (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) leads the team with a .647 batting average. She was named to the Louisville Slugger National Fastpitch Coaches Association's national honor roll after going 4-for-5, with two runs batted in, during the DePauw doubleheader.

Junior right fielder Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) is batting .568 and has started all 12 games this spring. She has scored a team-high 13 runs and driven in an additional 10 runs.

Junior Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock) has legged out four doubles and connected on one home run. The first baseman is batting .371 with eight runs batted in (RBI) on the season.

Senior left fielder Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) leads the team with two home runs and 12 RBIs this spring.

Sophomore Olivia Paszek (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) leads Franklin's pitching staff with a 6-1 record and a 1.72 earned run average. She has recorded 28 strikeouts in 40.2 innings on the season.

Senior Bri McClellan (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) has started three games and has posted a 1-1 record.

Mount St. Joseph has a 7-6-1 record after splitting a home doubleheader with Wilmington College on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Adrian has a 1-4 mark early in the season and is in the middle of doubleheaders against HCAC opponents. The team lost twice to Defiance College on Sunday and is scheduled to play at Hanover College on Saturday.
