Softball Loses Two Monday Contests in Florida

Clermont, Fla. - The Franklin College softball team lost a pair of contests on Monday during the program's annual Florida trip, falling 2-1 to Capital University before losing 7-1 to Alma College.

Four players recorded two hits in the Capital contest. The Crusaders had a walk off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up the victory.

Capital (1-0) pushed a run across in the first inning to grab the early lead.

The Grizzlies (2-4) squared the game after back-to-back doubles to open the fourth inning by juniors Baylea Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) and Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock).

Juniors Taylor Johnson (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) and Megan Lalioff (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) joined Suiters and Blevins in collecting two hits in the contest.

In Monday's second game, Franklin took a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the third inning. However Alma (2-2) responded with three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good in the game. Alma reached the 2015 NCAA Division III Softball World Series. It added one run each in the fifth and sixth innings before capping the scoring with two runs in the seventh inning.

Junior Jeana Gregory (Martinsville, Ind./Mooresville) led the team's offensive attack with two hits.

Franklin concludes its season-opening Florida trip with two games on Tuesday, March 1. The Grizzlies battle Warburg College at 9 a.m. before facing Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 11 a.m.
