Softball Ties Single-Season Wins Mark in Split with Ohio Christian
Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team tied the program's single-season record for victories in earning a doubleheader with Ohio Christian University on Wednesday from Behrens Field. The team dropped the opener 2-1 before winning 13-0 in five innings in the second game.
The Grizzlies improved to 18-16 and will play at Transylvania University in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Thursday, April 24 at 3:30 p.m. from Lexington, Kentucky.
Franklin won 18 games during the 1994 season.
The team collected 15 hits to score 13 runs in the second game. Franklin plated six runs in the first inning before adding four more runs in the second inning. The hosts capped the scoring with a three-run third inning.
Freshman Jeana Gregory (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) led the offensive attack, going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Junior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Sophomore Anne Schwomeyer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) and freshman Abby Snyder (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) also recorded multiple hits.
Senior Allie Nash (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) picked up her first win of the season, allowing one hit in four scoreless innings in the second game. Freshman Nichole Brown (Osgood, Ind./Jac-Cen-Del) pitched a scoreless fifth inning to secure the victory.
In the first game, Ohio Christian (5-12) broke a 1-1 tie with a run in the top of the fifth inning. The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. However, Franklin answered with a run in the fourth inning. Ayers led the offensive effort with two hits.
