Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College softball team won its 15th game of the season in splitting a doubleheader against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Friday afternoon from Behrens Field in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action.
The Grizzlies earned a 7-2 victory in the second game after losing 1-0 in the opener.
Franklin (15-13, 3-5 HCAC) jumped ahead of the visiting Fightin' Engineers with a two-out single in the first inning from freshman Savannah Blevins (Wilkinson, Ind./Eastern Hancock). The base hit plated junior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort).
An inning later, freshman Jeana Gregory (Mooresville, Ind./Mooresville) gave the hosts a 4-0 lead on a bases-clearing double.
The early offense was all that freshman Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) would need as she scattered seven hits and gave up two runs in 6.2 innings. She improved to 4-4 on the season.
Franklin added two more runs in fifth inning and plated a single in the sixth inning.
In the opener, Rose-Hulman (11-7, 5-3 HCAC) broke a scoreless game in the fifth inning on a two-out double by Jessica Ahlborn. The Grizzlies loaded the bases in the sixth inning, but Rose-Hulman's Carly Heibel got two flyouts to end the threat.
Individually, sophomore Michelle Murphy (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) recorded three hits and scored a run in the victory. Ayers scored two runs and Blevins had two hits and drove in two runs in the second game.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m. when it hosts Bluffton University in HCAC action. Live statistics of both games will be available here. In-game updates will also be available on Twitter (@FCAthletics) and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/FranklinCollegeAthletics).
