Offense Leads Softball in Split at Spalding
Louisville, Ky. - The Franklin College softball team scored 13 runs on 13 hits to win the second game of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader split at Spalding University from Louisville, Kentucky.
The Grizzlies won the second game 13-2 after losing the opener 15-1. Both games went five innings.
Franklin (12-10) had a pair of five-run frames in the second and fourth innings of the second game. Five players had multiple-hit efforts, including three-hit performances by sophomore Katie Struewing (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) and freshman Baylea Suiters (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran).
Trailing 1-0, the visitors took the lead on a two-run single by Hanna in the second inning. A run-scoring single plated Hanna to give Franklin a 3-1 advantage. Later, a double by Struewing scored junior Jessica Ayers (Frankfort, Ind./Frankfort) for the fifth run of the inning.
In the fourth inning, Suiters had a two-run double to key the five-run inning. The Grizzlies added three runs in the fifth inning to cap the scoring.
Freshman Bailey Lindamood (Fishers, Ind./Fishers) picked up her third win of the season in a complete-game effort.
In the opener, Spalding (9-10) scored seven runs in the second inning to seize control of the game. Franklin freshman Jessica Thom (Mooresville, Ind./Monrovia) had the team's lone RBI in the top of the second inning.
The Grizzlies are scheduled to host a doubleheader on Thursday, April 3 at 2 p.m. against Ohio Christian University from Behrens Field. Live statistics of the game will be available here.
