RECAP | Grizzly Cross Country Teams Record 12th Place Finishes at Rhodes College Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a two-week break from competition, the Franklin cross country teams hit the course for their second meet of the year on Saturday (Sept. 15), taking part in the Rhodes College Invitational.

Facing off against fields that included teams from Divisions I, II and III, both Franklin squads recorded 12th place finishes in their respective races.

First up was the men's 8K race and just like in their first race of the year, the Grizzlies were paced by junior Clayton Brumfield. The Greenfield, Ind.-native turned in a strong showing against the large field, earning a 33rd place finish with a time of 27:35.0. Fellow junior Blaine Conners joined his teammate in the top-50, finishing 47th overall with a 28:03.8.

Junior Adam Rector set a new personal best in the 8K, taking 62nd overall with a time of 28:34.8. Sophomore Chris Graham was right on his heels, clocking in at 28:44.0 to earn a 64th place finish.

Freshman Andrew Montgomery (130th/31:49.1), freshman Jordan Johnson (135th/32:07.0), sophomore Logan Vandermark (139th/32:48.8), freshman Matthew Lee (146th/33:29.7), junior Sean Groves (152nd/34:34.4), junior Alex Creamer (154th/34:57.4), and freshman Alex Simon (175th/40:26.1) rounded out the times for the FC men.

Topping the leaderboard for the Franklin women were sophomores Krista Robinson and Grace Esterline. Robinson placed 73rd overall, coming in with a time of 26:49.6 while Esterline was one spot behind her in 74th place and a run time of 26:58.2. Freshman Taylor Wooten bested her season-best time by nearly 30 seconds, finishing in 27:28.0 to earn an 89th place finish. Senior Meghan Yencer was right behind her, finishing 92nd with a time of 27:46.2.

Junior Jayla Callens (123rd/30:08.5), senior Kelsey Bowling (127th/30:32.2), sophomore Madeleine Correll (147th33:04.7) and freshman Morgan Timmons (148th/33:46.2) also took part in the event for Franklin.

The Grizzlies are off for two more weeks before heading to Louisville, Ky. on Sept. 29 for the Greater Louisville Classic, held at Tom Sawyer Park. Start time is set for 9:30 a.m.
