SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – It was a hot, humid morning for the Franklin cross country teams to open their 2018 seasons, as the team hosted their annual Sodexo Grizzly Invitational at Blue River Park in the first of three trips to that venue this year.

Both teams wasted no time getting right into the thick of things, with the men running an 8K race first followed by the women's 6K run. Franklin's men claimed a sixth place finish while the women placed 11th.

Junior Clayton Brumfield paced the Grizzly men, earning a 14th place finish with a time of 27:53.1. Right on his heels was fellow junior Blaine Conners, who clocked in with 28:16.9 to earn a 20th place finish. Sophomore Chris Graham turned in a strong showing in the year's opening meet, taking 37th overall with a time of 29:15.3.

The Franklin women were led by reigning HCAC Freshman of the Year Krista Robinson, whose time of 28:01.7 earned a 65th place finish. Freshman Taylor Wooten turned in a strong performance in her first collegiate event, taking 69th overall with a 28:07.7. Sophomore Grace Esterline took third on the Grizzlies, clocking in at 29:27.8 to earn an 84th place finish.

Senior Meghan Yencer (104th/30:54.2), senior Kelsey Bowling (111th/33:47.7), junior Jayla Callens (112th/34.03.9) and freshman Morgan Timmons (114th/36:26.8) rounded out the remaining runners for the FC women.

The Grizzlies will have a few weeks off before heading south for their next event. Franklin will hit the course in Memphis, Tenn. on Saturday, Sept. 15 for the Rhodes College Invite at Shelby Farms Park. Start time is set for 9:30 a.m.
