FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College cross country teams will be competing in the first of two post-season races this weekend, taking part in the 2017 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 28. The event is hosted by Manchester University and will take place at the Manchester cross country course.

The Grizzlies competed in a tough fall schedule, with both the men's and women's teams notching one runner-up finish in five events this fall. The women's team had three top-10 runners in the Sodexo Grizzly Invitational, and one winner in freshman Krista Robinson, who was competing in her first collegiate race.

Senior Rachel Bowden has been a co-anchor, along side Robinson, for the Grizzlies as she has been Franklins lead finisher two of the four races. Bowden would place seventh in the Grizzlies home event and 66th in the Indiana Intercollegiate Championship.

Junior Meghan Yencer and freshman Grace Esterline join Bowden and Robinson in posting strong regular season finishes.

Franklin's men's team had a steady fall season. Sophomore Clayton Brumfield, the reigning HCAC Freshman of the Year, finished atop the Franklin leaderboard in every race this fall. His top finish of the year came in the Grizzlies' first meet of the year, recording a fifth place in the Grizzlies' home event. Sophomore Blaine Conners and junior Heath Deugan would crack the top-10 in the same event finishing sixth and ninth place, respectively, while freshman Chris Graham just missing out on the top-10, coming in 12th overall.

Teammates J.T. Sargent, Logan Vandermark and Reed Sauter look to keep the strong performances going as they enter the HCAC championship race.

The event gets underway at 11:45 a.m. in North Manchester, Ind. Fans can tune in to the championships by clicking on the video button at the top of the page.
