FRANKLIN, Ind. (March 26, 2017) The Franklin College Men's and Women's Track and Field teams posted some season best marks at the Bill Smith Challenge meet. The meet had Franklin going against teams from different divisions and top marks were posted by both teams. The men's and women's teams both placed fourth.
The 110 hurdles saw freshman hurdler Matt Stienke place third (16.51) and senior Nathaniel Staples place fifth (17.51) in the event. Staples also placed seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:04.46), second in long jump (6.00 meters), and third in triple jump (11.95 meters).
Junior Alan Smith was sixth in long jump (4.85 meters) and freshman Tyler Doty was seventh in high jump. Sophomore Nick Coultas was third in shot put (11.24 meters), fourth in the discus throw (30.63), and second in hammer (35.23 meters).
The women's 200 meter dash saw freshman Sarah Miller (28.36) and junior Alexis Weidner (29.27) take third and fourth place respectfully. Miller was also second in the javelin throw.
Sophomore Kelsey Bowling had a very strong showing at the meet– placing second in the 100 hurdles (17.81), fourth in long jump (4.88 meters), and third in triple jump (10.04 meters).
Erica Christy was third in the women's hammer throw (39.92) and Laura Worthington was fifth (31.58 meters).
Both the men's and women's teams will return to action April 8, when the teams will host a home meet.
