FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin men's tennis team faced off with a pair of conference foes over the weekend, taking on Anderson on Saturday (Sept. 28) and Manchester on Sunday afternoon.
After dropping a 9-0 contest to the Ravens to open the weekend, the Grizzlies (1-3) bounced back on Sunday afternoon with a 6-3 win over the Spartans on their home courts.
Saturday's meeting with the Ravens featured nine tight contests that all went the Ravens' way. Franklin reversed their fortunes on Sunday against Manchester, starting with a pair of doubles wins to open the afternoon. The Grizzlies' top pairing of Blake Amonett and Jacob Zachary rolled to an 8-4 win, finishing just behind the second pair of Ty McCory and Josh Stewart, who picked up an 8-3 win of their own.
All four players that picked up points in doubles play were victorious in singles competition from the top four spots in the lineup. Amonett won a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2 match at the top of the lineup with Zachary cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 win from the No. 2 position. Stewart needed to go the distance in his singles match before winning 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 and McCory closed things out winning 6-0, 6-3.
The Grizzlies close out their fall schedule this coming Friday (Oct. 4), when they host Johnson College. First serve from the tennis courts are set for 4:00 p.m.
