NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – The Franklin College men's tennis team packed up shop and headed south on Saturday (Apr. 20) morning, traveling to the Top Seed Tennis Club to take on the Transylvania Pioneers.
The Grizzlies (7-8, 4-2 HCAC) battled the Pioneers (7-10, 3-2 HCAC) tough, but the top part of the Transy lineup proved too strong on Saturday morning with the Pioneers taking a 6-3 decision.
Franklin salvaged a point in doubles play thanks to a strong showing at the No. 3 position by the team of Zach Lester and Jacob Zachary. The duo rolled to an 8-3 win over their Pioneer counterparts, cutting the Transy lead to 2-1 heading into singles play.
Lester grabbed his second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win from the No. 6 position and Josh Stewart was a 6-1, 6-0 winner from the No. 5 spot in the lineup. But the other four singles decisions went the way of the Pioneers, all in straight sets to close out Transy's victory.
Franklin returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 24) night, when the welcome Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) perennial powerhouse Rose-Hulman to town for a meeting under the lights at Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
