WARSAW, Ind. – For the first time in three weeks, the Franklin College men's tennis team was in action, taking on Manchester University at the Warsaw Tennis and Fitness Club.

The Grizzlies (3-9, 0-2 HCAC) came up just short in their search for their first conference win of the year, falling to the Spartans (2-6, 2-2 HCAC) 6-3.

The Grizzlies top two players, Alex Hammer and Blake Amonett, were responsible for all three of the team's points on Saturday. The two teamed up at the top doubles spot for a 9-7 win over Isaac Collis and Spencer Thomas.

In singles play, Hammer handed Collis a 6-1, 6-1 defeat in a showdown of the number one singles players. Amonett picked up his second point of the day shortly after with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Connor Eichenauer at No. 2 doubles.

But the Grizzlies would come up short across the rest of the lineup, suffering one singles defeat in three sets and having two other singles matches decided by tie-breaker.

Franklin will look to get in the win column next Saturday (Apr. 21), when they welcome Earlham and Defiance to the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex for a pair of conference meetings. The Grizzlies will take on Earlham at noon, followed by a 5:00 p.m. showdown with Defiance.
