Strong Singles Play Leads Men’s Tennis to Win at Hanover

Hanover, Ind. - The Franklin College men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three matches in a 5-4 road Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) victory over rival Hanover College on Sunday.

The Grizzlies (5-4, 3-2 HCAC) won four of the six singles matches to rally from a 2-1 deficit following doubles action.

Junior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) started the strong singles effort with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the No. 4 court. Senior Jared Hunt (New Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) gave the Grizzlies a 3-2 advantage with a straight-set win at No. 6 singles. Hunt dropped only two games in picking up his fifth singles triumph on the season.

Junior Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) defeated Hanover's Andrew Laubner 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 5 singles position for his team-leading sixth victory.

After a victory by Hanover trimmed Franklin's lead to 4-3, freshman Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) clinched the match with a 7-6 (3), 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.

In doubles, junior Evan Pierle (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Woehrle won a tiebreaker 7-1 on the No. 3 court.

Franklin returns to action on Thursday, April 24 when it hosts Manchester University at 5 p.m. from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex.
