Franklin, Ind. - Franklin College men's tennis team improved to 2-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action with a 7-2 victory over Anderson University from the Mickel-Hoover Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Franklin (4-4, 2-2 HCAC) won five of the six singles matches to clinch the victory.
The Grizzlies held a 2-1 advantage after doubles as the tandem of juniors Evan Pierle (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Robby Woehrle (Avon, Ind./Avon) broke the tie with a 9-7 win at the No. 3 position.
Senior Jared Hunt (New Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community) dropped only three games in earning a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles. Woehrle won a straight-set match at No. 5 singles. Junior Luke Snyder (Franklin, Ind./Franklin Community) won by identical 6-3 set scores on the No. 4 singles court.
Junior Ryan Hammer (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) earned a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 victory at the top of the singles lineup. Freshman Ethan Caldwell (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute North) won in three sets at No. 2 singles. Caldwell forced a deciding third-set tiebreaker by winning the second set 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Caldwell recorded a 10-4 victory to round out the winners.
The Hunt-Snyder doubles team recorded an 8-2 win on the No. 2 court.
Franklin returns to action on Sunday, April 13 at 11 a.m. when it travels to rival Hanover College.
