INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Franklin College swimming and diving team swept the first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Diver of the Week awards on Tuesday (Oct. 23) afternoon.
Senior Will Combs collected his first conference diver of the week award on the men's side while sophomore Lexi Blackburn earned her third career diver of the week award from the league.
Indianapolis, Ind.-native Combs was tops among all HCAC divers at the season-opening Indiana DIII Invitational last Saturday afternoon. Combs collected 212.05 points on the 3-meter board and 202.30 points on the 1-meter board, finishing as runner-up in both events. The Grizzlies finished fourth overall against a deep and competitive field at the event.
The reigning HCAC Diver of the Year, Blackburn helped the Grizzlies to a second-place finish with two strong showings on the board. The Clayton, Ind.-native took first place on the 3-meter board with a score of 220.25 points, and her total of 212.40 points on the 1-meter board earned a second-place finish, just .10 points off of first place at the event.
Both divers will be back on the board on Friday (Oct. 26) night, when they welcome Illinois Wesleyan and Anderson to town for their first home dual competitions of the year. Start time from Franklin Middle School is set for 6:00 p.m.
