RECAP | Grizzly Divers Take Part in NCAA Diving Regionals

CHICAGO, Ill. – A trio of divers from the Franklin College swimming and diving teams had their sights set on qualifying for nationals this weekend when they took part in the NCAA Division III Region 1 Diving Championships.

For the first time ever, the Grizzlies sent multiple divers to the event. Junior Will Combs and sophomore Jacob Keener represented the FC men while Lexi Blackburn became the first woman in program history to compete in the regional event.

A historic season for all three divers came to an end, as all three came up just short in their goal of qualifying for the Division III National Championships at the end of the month.

On Friday night, the women opened competition on the three-meter board while the men took to the one-meter board. Blackburn recorded an 11-dive score of 314.70, finishing in 16th-place overall. Meanwhile, Keener racked up 375.20 points over 11 dives to finish in 16th-place while Combs finished with 343.40 points to earn a 23rd-place finish.

On Saturday, the men took their turn on the three-meter board while the women switched to the one-meter board. Blackburn's 11-dive total of 349.65 earned her a 17th-place finish on the women's side while Combs took 23rd overall with an 11-dive score of 302.60.
