GREENVILLE, Ill.. – The Grizzly men's soccer team continued a five-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Greenville Panthers at Francis Field.
Franklin had the majority of the chances on the afternoon, but were sank by an early goal and two more tallies less than three minutes apart in the second half. Luke Oliver potted a goal for the second straight game, but it wasn't enough as the Grizzlies fell 3-1.
Disaster struck in the 11th minute, when the Panthers opened the scoring on their first shot on target of the day. Oliver nearly got the equalizer less than 10 minutes later, but was turned aside by Greenville goalkeeper Nick Holland.
Tyler Majeski had a look at a tying goal with 11 seconds left to go in the first half, but Holland soaked up the shot at the horn.
Franklin peppered the Panthers early in the second half, but quality chances from Sam Stallsmith and Oliver were turned away in the first 10 minutes of the half. Greenville would capitalize in the 62nd and 64th minutes with a pair of back-breaking goals to make it 3-0.
Oliver netted his second goal of the season in the 74th minute on his fourth and final shot attempt of the night. It was the last scoring chance on the night for the Grizzlies as the clock would run out before either team was able to attempt another shot.
Shots were 13-12 in favor of the Grizzlies on the night. Trevor Byrd made three stops in net for Franklin while Holland made five stops at the other end. FC held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks as well.
The Grizzlies wrap up their road trip on Monday night, traveling to Louisville, Ky. for a meeting with Spalding University. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
