GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Franklin College men's golf team hit the links for their spring debut on Saturday and Sunday (Mar. 16-17), traveling to Link Hills Country Club for the Tusculum Invitational.
Facing off against teams from both Division II and Division III, the Grizzlies closed out their first event of the 2019 calendar year with a seventh-place finish. Playing out of the third position entering the weekend, junior Jackson Williams paced the Grizzlies over the weekend, carding a two-day score of 153 (75-78) to earn a share of 17th place.
Senior Jacob Hash kicked off his final tour on the links with a share of 24th place on the weekend, finishing two shots back of Williams with a 155 (79-76). Freshman Alan Showalter took 33rd place overall at the event with a 158 (79-79) while Brock Tennyson tied for 54th with a 167 (79-88). RJ Turner rounded out the top-five with a 168 (85-83), tying for 57th on the weekend.
A trio of Grizzlies made the trip and competed as individuals over the weekend. Fresh off his debut season with the men's basketball team, Matt Krause earned a share of 42nd place with a 161 (81-80) in his first career tournament. Junior Aubrey Seaman tied for 50th with a 165 (81-84) and Lucas Thornton rounded out the list of Franklin competitors with a 174 (84-90).
After a few weeks off, the Grizzlies will head to Florence, Ind. for their second event of the spring. Franklin will take on a competitive field in the Battle at Belterra at Belterra Golf Course on Apr. 6-7.
