Ryan McElwain joined the Franklin College football coaching staff in February 2018.
Prior to joining the Grizzlies, McElwain served in multiple capacities, most recently as the Defensive Coordinator, at Kalamazoo College from the 2009 to the 2017 seasons. During his tenure at Kalamazoo College, the Hornet defense ranked nationally in passes defended, total tackles, opponent 3rd down conversion rate, opponent 4th down conversion rate, rushing defense and first downs allowed.
His coaching experience also includes assisting the West Michigan Ironmen of the Midwest Professional Indoor Football League (2016-2017), a strength and conditioning internship with the Western Michigan Broncos (2011), serving as the Running Backs coach at his alma mater DePauw University (2008) and assisting with linebackers and defensive backs at Franklin Central High School (2008).
A two-sport athlete in college, participating in football and track, McElwain graduated from DePauw University in 2008 with a degree in Economics and Management. During his time in Kalamazoo, McElwain also earned a Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Western Michigan University in 2012.
