Steve Rock, a 1994 graduate of Indiana University at Indianapolis, joined the Franklin coaching staff in the spring of 2007. He is entering his 10th season and will serve as the special teams coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and linebackers.
During his first season Rock helped kicker Machy Magdalinos earn Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Special Team Player of the Year in 2007. He would also lead punter Michael Parks to third-team All-American honors following the 2012 campaign. In 2013, Mike Wood and Parks each received All-HCAC accolades. Parks received first-team Capital One Academic All-American honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America following the 2013 season.
On defense, linebacker Keaton Lyons was named the HCAC Freshman of the Year in 2012. A total of 20 linebackers have earned all-conference honors since 2007.
Rock, who has coached football for 18 years prior to coming to Franklin, has served as a varsity assistant coach at Center Grove High School since 2004 where he was the special teams coordinator and running back/receivers coach.
Prior to that appointment, he was a varsity assistant at Bloomington South, Lawrence Central, Plainfield and Cascade high schools. In addition to teaching computer systems at the high school and college levels, he has been president of Diversified Ventures, Inc. an internet technology business since 1992.
Rock and his wife, Wendy, a physical therapist, reside in Martinsville, Ind. and have one child, Viktoria.
