Franklin, Ind. - Another chapter will be written in one of the nation's most prestigious NCAA Division III rivalries when the Franklin College football team hosts Hanover College in the annual Victory Bell Classic on Saturday, November 15, at 1:30 p.m. from Faught Stadium.
The two in-state rivals first met on the gridiron in 1898. Hanover leads the all-time series 42-38-3, but Franklin has won nine straight Victory Bell Classic games, including last season's 59-21 triumph.
Saturday's game will also be the Grizzlies' Senior Day, with the program honoring senior football players, student coaches, student athletic trainers, and cheerleaders prior to game's kickoff.
Franklin's football program is also raising awareness for pediatric cancer and is asking all fans to wear gold-colored clothing for this special Gold Out Game.
The Grizzlies have already clinched their fifth consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championship, and the league's automatic bid to the Division III playoffs for the seventh time in the past eight seasons.
The team stands 7-2 on the season and is unbeaten in league play with a 7-0 HCAC record.
Senior quarterback Grant Welp (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park) leads Franklin's explosive offensive attack by passing for 2,729 yards and 28 touchdowns, and has completed 67 percent of his seasons this season. He also leads the team with seven rushing touchdowns.
Senior wingback Zach Cole (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) has been Welp's most frequent target, with 45 receptions. Classmate Jonny Hession (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) follows closely with 43 catches, and tops the team with 557 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Senior running back Joey Pasquale (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) leads the team's rushing attack with 527 yards. He has also added 38 receptions for 483 yards and five touchdowns.
Junior split end Mason Deal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) has caught 29 passes for 456 yards, including an 80-yard score in last Saturday's 48-14 victory at Defiance.
Defensively, junior linebacker Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) leads the team with 91 tackles. Senior defensive back Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) has recorded 51 tackles, while senior linebacker Trevor Yates (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) has added 48 stops.
Junior linebacker Lucas Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) and sophomore defensive back Taylor Christensen (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) are tied for team-high honors with interceptions. The Grizzlies' defense has forced 19 turnovers by opposing teams this fall.
