FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College baseball team is headed south for the 2019 NCAA Division III regional later this week, learning that they will be headed to Seguin, Texas for the four-team regional tournament.
The Grizzlies (28-13) are joined in the regional by three nationally-ranked programs from the Lone Star State. In the opening game of the double-elimination tournament, the Grizzlies will meet the region's top seed and No. 4-ranked team in the nation in the Trinity Tigers.
Trinity earned their spot in the field by winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) championship. The Tigers enter big dance with a record of 34-10, and are making their first national tournament appearance since winning the national championship back in 2016.
The other half of the Seguin bracket consists of the regional's second seed and host Texas Lutheran, who earned an at-large bid after falling to Trinity in the finals of their conference tournament. The Bulldogs are 31-12 and ranked 13th in the latest national rankings. They will meet third-seeded Concordia (TX), who sits 34-10 on the year and is currently ranked 24th in the nation. The Tornados are champions of the American Southwest Conference.
Franklin and Trinity will meet at 2:00 p.m. eastern time on Friday (May 17) afternoon at Katt-Isbel Field. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors and kids under the age of two get in for free.
