Baseball Team Splits Home Doubleheader

FRANKLIN, Ind. (March 12, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team split a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against visiting Wilmington College.

The Grizzlies lost the first game 15-7 but bounced back to win the second, 11-6.

In the first game, Franklin had seven hits, including a home run by catcher Alex Mis but, despite a late-inning rally, couldn't rebound from an early 10-0 deficit.

In the second game, Franklin pounded 11 hits in support of winning pitcher Jacob McMain (1-1), who scattered five hits and struck out eight in six innings of work.

Center fielder Tanner Nicholson was 2 of 3 at the plate in Game 2 with three runs and two stolen bases. First baseman Nick Wright was 2 of 5 with two runs and an RBI.

Third baseman Frank Podkul, shortstop Sam Claycamp and left fielder Mitch Schuman each drove in two runs to help the Grizzlies improve to 6-4.

Claycamp had a home run and catcher Jackson Freed had an RBI double for the Grizzlies' extra-base hits in the second game.

Franklin returns to action March 18 for Game 1 of a three-game weekend series against visiting Capital.
