FRANKLIN, Ind. (March 3, 2017) – The Franklin College baseball team lost to Albion College 5-4 after a late rally by the Britons Friday afternoon in the Grizzlies' home opener.
The game was the first of a three-game weekend series against Albion.
Albion broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the sixth inning and one in the top of the eighth for a 4-1 lead. The Grizzlies answered with three runs in the bottom of the eight forge a 4-4 tie heading into the final inning.
Albion, playing its season-opener, scored the game-winner in the top of the ninth.
Third baseman Frank Podkul and shortstop Sam Claycamp combined for four of the Grizzlies' nine hits on the day. Podkul was 2 for 3 at the plate. Ryan Erlandson, Alex Mis, Drew Naumovich, Jackson Freed and Jordan Clark each contributed a hit for Franklin. Claycamp and Clark each had a double.
The Grizzlies (2-3) play a doubleheader Saturday against Albion. Game 1 starts at noon.
