Windler Video On Hit Record

Franklin, Ind. - Senior Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) became Franklin College's all-time hit leader and Head Coach Lance Marshall recorded his 400th victory in the baseball team's 10-1 win over Bluffton University on Friday from John P. McDowell Field.

Windler set the record on a two-run home run in the sixth inning. The outfielder tied the Nick Stoia's (2010-13) mark of 232 hit with a single in the first inning. This marked the second-straight season the hit record has been set – both on home runs.

Marshall has a 400-290 overall record in 17 seasons leading the Grizzlies.

Franklin (23-14, 14-9 HCAC) is now tied for third place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference and is one game behind second place Anderson University.

The Grizzlies broke the scoreless game behind a four-run third inning. Freshman Cody Shipley (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) drove in freshman Damon DeJesus (Fort Wayne, Ind./Blackhawk Christian). A sacrifice fly by junior Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) plated sophomore Drew Kammerer (Fortville, Ind./Mt. Vernon) to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage. Shipley later stole home before sophomore Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) capped the scoring with a single.

The team added two more runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. Junior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) had a run-scoring single to score DeJesus. Kammerer later scored on a wild pitch.

In the sixth inning, Shipley slapped a single to score Brock, who doubled with two outs earlier in the frame. Then came Windler's record-setting homer. He now leads the team with six home runs on the season.

Senior Chris Hoopingarner (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) struck out a career-high 11 batters and allowed one unearned run in eight innings. The left hander improved to 7-4 on the season. Junior Lincoln Jones (Ramsey, Ind./North Harrison) tossed a perfect ninth inning to secure the victory.

Brock led Franklin's nine-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored. Windler drove in two runs and tallied two hits. He also scored two runs in the victory. DeJesus tallied two hits, while Kammerer scored two runs.
