Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team will experience playing in one of the nation's premiere minor-league venues when it plays Hanover College at Victory Field in downtown Indianapolis on Tuesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.
Victory Field is the home of the Indianapolis Indians, the Class AAA affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Admission for all persons attending the game is $5.
Franklin stands 19-13 on the season and is in fourth place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) with a 10-8 league record. The Grizzlies are coming off a road series victory at Transylvania University last weekend.
The team is one game behind second-place Anderson University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the standings. Franklin is also one game ahead of seventh place Bluffton University in the competitive HCAC race. The top four teams qualify for the conference tournament.
The Grizzlies look for the two-game season sweep of the Panthers after picking up a 3-2 road victory on April 8. Sophomore Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) had a pitch hit single in the eighth inning to break the tie.
Senior Scott Windler (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) leads Franklin's balanced offensive attack with a .380 batting average, five home runs and 31 runs scored. He is tops in the HCAC with 35 runs batted in (RBI). Windler is also 17-of-19 in stolen base attempts this season.
Junior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) is tops on the team with 52 hits. He has scored 26 runs, while driving in an additional 20 runs from the leadoff spot in the batting order. Classmate Mitch Frey (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) is hitting at a .325 clip and has 13 doubles.
On the mound, senior Taylor Glaze (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Central Catholic) posted a pair of victories last week. He was named the league's pitcher of the week on Monday. The left hander scattered three hits in eight innings against Rose-Hulman on April 15. He tossed six scoreless innings in relief in last Friday's 9-5 win in 14 innings at Transylvania. Glaze stands 3-1 on the season, with a 3.69 earned run average (ERA). Senior Chris Hoopingarner (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) is 5-3 and has a 3.14 ERA.
Hanover is 11-16 on the season and 7-10 in HCAC play. The Panthers are coming off a three-game sweep of Defiance College. Matt Newman leads the conference with a .435 batting average. He also leads the team with 20 RBI and 11 doubles. Matt Brooks is batting .346 and has scored 16 runs. Pitcher Mitch Hunnicut leads the HCAC with 65 strikeouts. The right hander is 3-5 with a 4.23 ERA.
