Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College baseball team scored five times over the first four innings and junior Seth Powers (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield-Central) struck out 11 batters in Sunday's 5-2 win over Anderson University at John P. McDowell Field.
Franklin (14-10, 5-5 HCAC) won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) series finale after dropping a pair of one-run contests on Saturday.
The Grizzlies started fast as sophomore Joe Ardizzone (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) plated junior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) with a single in the first inning. The hosts added to its lead an inning later on a two-run single by Brock with two outs.
Anderson (14-6, 7-3 HCAC) got a run back in the top of the third inning to trim Franklin's lead to 3-1.
In the fourth inning, Brock added to his big offensive day with a single to plate sophomore Braden Pelley (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North). Senior Rickey DuBois (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn) scored on a fielder's choice to give Franklin a 5-1 lead.
That was all the offense Powers would need as the right hander struck out 11 batters in a complete-game victory. Powers improved to 2-3 on the season and scattered six hits in the game.
Offensively, Brock tallied three of Franklin's seven hits on the afternoon. He also drove in three runs in the win. DuBois and Pelley each scored two runs.
Franklin returns to action on Tuesday, April 8 at 4 p.m. when it is scheduled to travel to Hanover College.
