GREENWOOD, Ind. – A pair of Franklin College sluggers collected Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Player of the Week honors on Monday afternoon, with Nick Wright and Alexis Tarver picking up the award in their respective sports.
Tarver collected her second consecutive softball Player of the Week award after another strong showing at the plate in four games. The Indianapolis-native batted 462 (6-for-13) with one home run, seven RBI, 11 total bases, an .846 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage as Franklin went 3-1 last week.
After a quiet first game against Transylvania last Tuesday, Tarver began to heat up in game two, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI, driving in a run on all four hits in the Grizzlies' 10-0 win over the league-leading Pioneers. Friday against Bluffton, she smacked her team-leading fifth home run of the year in game two, a 9-0 Franklin win that capped a sweep of the Beavers.
The Grizzlies (19-5, 6-2 HCAC) head to Anderson on Wednesday (Apr. 18) afternoon for a pair of games against the Ravens of Anderson University.
Wright mashed his way to his first HCAC Player of the Week award, going 6-for-10 with three home runs and nine RBI, 15 total bases, a 1.500 slugging percentage and a .636 on-base percentage as Franklin swept Manchester on Sunday.
Wright blasted a solo shot in the sixth inning of game one and followed it up with a multi-homer effort in game two as Franklin cruised to a pair of wins over the Spartans. The Bloomington, Ind.-native has six home runs and 31 RBI on the year, ranking second on the Grizzlies and second in the HCAC in both categories.
Franklin hosts Rose-Hulman on Tuesday afternoon, the start of six straight games held at John P. McDowell Field.
